As the winner of the Mobi PCS “Gear Up and Give Back” competition, Hilo Intermediate has received $10,000. The school won by garnering the largest number of community votes through this new program to support island schools statewide.
The donation was presented by Mobi PCS Director of Sales Jeff Napoleon to Hilo Intermediate Vice Principal Kurt Kawachi at a special assembly of the entire student body, as well as teachers, PTSA members and parents.
“We couldn’t be more excited to give back to Hilo Intermediate’s students and teachers through the Gear Up and Give Back program,” explained Napoleon. “The support of the tight-knit Hilo community is what launched the school to the top.”
Maui and Castle High Schools are receiving $5,000 for garnering the second- and third-highest number of votes. Between mid-July and Aug. 31, members of the community were invited to visit any of the 12 Mobi PCS stores statewide to vote for their favorite local elementary, middle or high school using a custom-designed Mobi Gear Up and Give Back web application.
In addition to all Mobi retail stores, 30 of the company’s authorized dealers were also Gear Up and Give Back voting locations. No purchase was necessary.
